Scents take hold of our senses and forge links between them, the time and place we first experienced them. In the early noughties, I was led by nose to the Selfridges counter that sold Alexander McQueen Kingdom Perfume. I bought it then and there, and it is still a favourite of mine. I still have a few drops I’m saving to use on my upcoming birthday day out. Of equal importance is Hugo Boss Femme, which I layered for bath and body on my wedding day. It finished a new year ago, but we had a good run. Thinking of those perfumes, I was inspired to hit the pavement, so you don’t have to. I was seeking the trendy scents for Christmas. Here’s hoping hubby takes a hint, too! Here’s a hint: florals are still en vogue. I now have 5 perfume picks to gift her for Christmas 2025.
Scents For Winter 2025
When I’m looking for a perfume, firstly, I consider the occasion, time of day and season it will be worn. Then, I find out the notes. For Winter (Christmas) 2025, one of the scents that’s trending is Gourmand, which is a fragrance with edible notes such as vanilla, caramel, chocolate, and liquor-infused notes (rum, whisky). Gifting a perfume with Gourmand equates to giving warmth, comfort and festivity.
Musk and flowers are often said to be ‘a match made in heaven. This combo is never out of style and frankly can work worn all year round, in my opinion. Flowers like violet, iris, rose, and camellia are still popular, but the modern twist is combining them with notes like spicy amber and musk.
Nothing says festivity and Christmas like fruits & berries. This winter, cherries, berries and pitaya are trending.
BUYER TIP: Match scent profile to recipient, for example, gourmand/vanilla for someone who loves sweet/heavy scents; woody/musk for someone who likes more subtle or unisex vibes.

In no order, first up is Gucci Flora Intense. The fragrance combines Italian Mandarin with a radiant heart of Gardenia and Hedione. Enhanced by green vibrancy and warm Sandalwood, it creates a lasting floral fragrance that envelops the senses in pure bliss. It’s fifth in line in the Gucci Flora collection, and Intense is all things festive.
La Bomba by carolina Herrera opens up with vibrant and exotic juicy pitaya, creating a show-stopping burst of undeniable character. When I smelt this! It was love, and it’s not just the stunning packaging and the fact that you can refill. It made my heart sing, you know that’s always a good sign, it’s a match. Top notes Pitaya (dragon fruit), heart notes Peony and base notes Vanilla.
L’Eau d’Issey Pivoine, stay with me, although it doesn’t conjure winter because of peonies, but there’s a white raspberry accord at the heart and cedarwood essences at the base. We can rock with it. The perfumer created a unique peony accord with floral, juicy and green facets exclusively for Issey Miyake.
Paradoxe Radical Essence, the new feminine fragrance by Prada. This new signature rethinks gourmand scents with the most addictive Paradoxe: a concentration of unexpected gourmand notes in a sophisticated Parfum. It has notes: Orange flower heart absolute, heart note salted pistachio accord, base notes sandalwood accords. The Salted Pistachio Accord gives it an addictive, roasted and salty note.
La Vie Est Belle Vanille Nude by Lancôme is a floral musky gourmand feminine fragrance that combines glazed vanilla and solar jasmine with an enveloping base of creamy, white musk and sandalwood. She looks sleek and pretty but packs a punch. She has a powerful skin scent that elevates your natural essence and lasts all day long with an exceptional, up to 5-hour intensity.
