A couple weeks ago I attended Mothercare’s SS16 press day. It’s always a pleasure to attend their events. Their press days are well-orchestrated, sleek and in a trendy part of London. On this occasion it was at the Rook and Raven, Rathbone Place. It was my second time attending an event that venue. It’s easy to get to via public transport and the large rooms lend themselves to any magical scenery of the imagination. SS16 Mothercare will usher in a first time collaboration for Peter Rabbit inspired collection by Mothercare to mark 150 years of Beatrix Potter’s children’s stories. Once again I was blown away by the Little Bird collection and Baby K is always cutting edge with their signature palette of black and white. SS16 with Mothercare will be a season of adorable bunnies, butterflies, beautiful blooms, brightly coloured birds, sun, sea and intermittent showers.
Mothecare’s collection for 0-8 year’s old fashion will make you want to holiday plan. 2016 year of Rio’s World cup and Mothercare’s Rio collection is all vibrant tropical prints with pineapples, parrots and palm trees. I’m loving the Hamptons collection seaside theme as well. Its a dream to have unisex raincoats and mix or match canvas slip on shoe or new lightweight trainers. While the nursery bedding are so delightfully cosy with unisex prints and decorations that will foster calm and sleep.
Baby K always brings funky, fun and wearable designs. SS16 Baby K girls: tutus, dungarees, tees and of course adorable party dresses and more. While the boys are all camouflage and tropical animals but I love the flare of Geek chic style. This year Myleene has introduced Baby K nursery with crisp mint greens and zing lemon colours with ziggy zaggy playful patterns and Danish inspired furniture.
Little Bird has a special place in my heart. My son and I are rainbow lovers. We are indeed a rainbow family. He has been asking for a rainbow coloured top for ages. When entered the Rook & Raven my eyes fell immediately on Little Birds sweatshirt! It’s the perfect unisex piece to top a tutu or pair of chinos. SS16 Little Birds was inspired by Jools’ love of the British seaside. While the rainbows and floral prints remain, we will also see kites, boats and fish motifs. The newborn range has retro like the rest of the collection which allows siblings to dress alike. I get a bit misty eyed. Jools gets it. As parent to one boy and one girl both of whom are bold imaginative, I struggle to find pieces for them. They like to dress in a similar fashion from time to time. Angelo grumbles about the dark colours in boys clothing. He questions why Valentina’s pyjama buttons have hearts and his doesn’t. Yes children do notice the finer detail and its time that designers and retailers offer them clothing step of out of the one blue one pink box. Thank you Jools!
Mothercare thanks again for an exciting collection. 2016 can’t come fast enough for us. To see more images from the event you can visit our Facebook page or search hashtag #SS16Mothercare .
