Yesterday I had the phenomenal pleasure of being in room full of inspirational women. We gathered to network, meet and listen to the presentation by celebrity makeup artists (MUA) and twin sisters Denise and Janice Tunnell. The event was put together by none other than Dr Clare Anyiam-Osigwe (founder of Premae Skincare) and her sister Jo. Together they are JoClarePr. Set against the elegant backdrop of Hilton Hotel Kensington Olympia, it was a warm, friendly nurturing gathering. It’s safe to say that the SipnShare event with the Tunnell sister was a success and patrons are requesting more please.
Denise and Janice Tunnell came to London to tell us more about their brand Illusions Cosmetics. After our time together, patrons came away with life lessons, fun anecdotes about working with Hollywood actors, and how to care for our skins. Rhia Harry, of Pride UK, hosted the intimate gathering and put forward excellent questions to Denise and Janice. Denise and Janice created Illusion Cosmetics for women of colour, brown women. They were resolute in their commitment to stay true to their target market. I admit I took heart in that. Too often brands build themselves up and make profit from women of colour only to forget about us the higher the get to the sun. These amazing ladies have worked with the likes of Taraji P. Henson, Terrence Howard and Idris Elba to name a few well known Hollywood actors. They pride themselves for their professionalism and enjoy working people who bring that to the tables. They highlighted one the challenges about working as a professional MUA is the long hours sometimes 14-16 hour days.
Both ladies agree that living life to the fullest when you are young and saving more money main pieces of advice they would give to their younger selves. In regards to skin care they advise that ladies should invest in skincare to repair any skin damage, such as ache scaring, then there would be less need to use makeup to cover-up. For ladies forty plus they advise don’t miss on the necessary steps in your skincare regime. Your skincare regime maybe longer but it’s worth it, because the areas you neglect are the areas you will see signs of ageing first. Sitting listing to Denise and Janice speak I was blown away by their passion, drive, commitment and humbleness. Their ‘can do attitude’ made me feel with planning and foresight anything is possible and honestly… I guess it is!
