On 8th October I attended the press event for the launch of the award winning US haircare brand Shea Moisture. It was with great excitement and sentimental feelings that I arrived at the Wells Street launch location. Like many UK naturalistas, I had my own story of how I discovered the as a newly natural. Many naturalista loyal to the brand will know that they are online websites where a wide range of the products are already stocked. Nonetheless, it feels like a big leap for naturalistas to finally be able to purchase hair products from a major high street retailer like Boots. Shea Moisture’s UK launch was a well-attended fun, friendly, informal affair, amongst those present were bloggers and beauty industry professionals.
At the Shea Moisture UK launch the CCO Emmet Dennis shared the brand’s story of origin and its journey to the UK. I confess I was a bit misty eyed. Emmet also introduced the other members of the Shea Moisture team who joined him on trip. Present at the event were:
- Raja Kabul- COO
- Tim Bunch- CMO
- Chi mole Williams- Business Consultant
- Latraviette Smith Wilson- Senior Vice President
- Rich Dennis- CEO at Sundial brands (Production Company)
UKCurly Girl (Shannon) spoke after Emmet sharing her hairstory and experience with the brand, Shea Moisture. I’m sure her story resonated with other naturalistas in the room. After speeches, it was time to mingle again. I had the pleasure of speaking Emmet, Chimole and UKCurly Girl. I realised from the products on display, my own staple products were not part of the line-up to be sold at Boots. However, after speaking to Chimole and UKCurly Girl I found out about suitable replacements. Shea Moisture has a wide range of products. I’m really hoping next to make the crossing would be the baby products, as well as the beauty. Another challenge for women of colour is finding make-up suitable for our skin tone, on the high street.
Since the launch, I’ve popped into my local Boots and spotted Shea Moisture. Products range from £10.99 for shampoos to £12.99 for hair treatments. You can follow Shea Moisture UK on Facebook and Twitter.
