As we grow older and responsibilities begin to pile up, we sometimes lose the essence of who we once were. We forget the things that gave us joy. We forget how to relax. I recently attend two events which had a deep positive effect on me. At the WOW Beauty event, I was reminded of the importance of stopping to breathe. At the Ladies Who Lunch Creativity Breakfast, I had the opportunity to clear my mind and reconnect with my creative self. If you are looking to make a change for the New Year, exploring your creative side may be the way free your mind.
4 Ways To Be Creative
Four ways that you can reconnect to yourself using creativity:
- Mindfulness Colouring Therapy
- Art Journaling
- Creative Writing
- Blogging
Mindfulness Colouring Therapy
What is it you ask? Very simply it’s the colouring in of illustrations. Whether is flora, fauna or mandalas (which are complex abstract circular designs originally used in Buddhism for meditation). In my experience, the more you colour the simplest designs reveals their true complexity. I found the longer I coloured the more relaxed I became and my thoughts were clear and calm. Once complete you can frame piece, like a piece of art.
Art Journaling
The act of doing art in a bound journal, even loose paper. It’s a way to express your feelings, process your emotions, and write your goals as well as things that inspire you all using art instead of words. Although words can be art part of your creation.
There are vloggers on YouTube who have shared their creations, take a look.
Creative Writing
I’ve often heard it said that everyone has a book in them. However, if you don’t want to commit to writing your memoirs or the next big kids book, then creative writing may be the outlet for you. You can find creative writing prompts online. There may be an evening class at your local college.
Writing helps with structuring thoughts and improves communication.
Blogging
Sharing your passion with others can be very fulfilling. There are now no boundaries, with the internet. Blogging for recreation allows you to connect with likeminded people anywhere in the world. You can blog anonymous if you like. Whatever your subject or writing style creating something that’s aesthetically pleasing and establishing a network immensely gratifying.
How do you unwind? I’d love to hear from you. You can also follow me on Instagram, so check out my colouring projects.
