Here at The Tiger Tales, we do enjoy a wild day out! And we’ve got something to share with you. The National Space Centre has something a little different in store this summer. This August, families can enjoy a series of dinosaur-themed movie screenings beneath the stars inside the UK’s largest planetarium, turning a trip to the attraction into a truly unforgettable cinema experience.
Dino Cinema Experience
As part of its NEW Summer Film Club, the National Space Centre in Leicester will transform its iconic planetarium into a giant-screen cinema for three special Sunday morning screenings throughout August. Expect a prehistoric adventure with some of the most-loved dinosaur films of all time, making it the perfect summer treat for dinosaur fans of all ages.
The fun starts before the film even begins. Visitors will have time to explore the National Space Centre’s Welcome Hall, where you can see an impressive collection of real spaceflight artefacts. Highlights include Matt Damon’s spacesuit from The Martian, Buzz Aldrin’s Apollo mission undersuit and astronaut Tim Peake’s Soyuz spacesuit, making it well worth arriving early.
The dinosaur adventure doesn’t stop at the big screen either. Families will also have the chance to come face-to-face with a group of Velociraptors in a specially designed secure enclosure, adding an extra dose of prehistoric excitement to the day.
Other Attractions
If you’re feeling peckish before the screening, the National Space Centre Café will be open, serving themed snacks and refreshments. Located beneath the attraction’s iconic Rocket Tower, it’s a unique spot to grab a bite to eat while surrounded by full-sized rockets before heading into the planetarium.
Whether your family loves the thrills of Jurassic Park or the heartwarming story of The Land Before Time, the Summer Film Club promises a memorable cinema experience in one of the UK’s most unique venues. It’s a fantastic way to combine science, adventure and classic family films during the summer holidays.
The National Space Centre Film Club Dates
As mentioned earlier, the film club runs for three consecutive Sundays. The Summer Film Club line-up includes:
- Sunday 2 August – Jurassic Park
- Sunday 9 August – Dinosaur
- Sunday 16 August – The Land Before Time
