It’s not often that we go into Central London as a family. So, last week we were delighted to accept the invitation to visit Innocent Smoothies Fruit Towers. While we enjoy making fresh juices and smoothies at home, when we shop Innocent is our brand of choice. Their smoothie combinations are innovative and tasty. I was eager to hear what the had in store for their kids range. Additionally, I wanted to meet with Anna, their in-house nutritionist.  It has been challenge to get Valentina to eat more fruit and veg. It was never an issue with Angelo, so I was caught off-guard with Valentina.  We had an excellent day out as a family, looking, touching and tasting fruit in the fun environment at Innocent Fruity Towers.

After meeting and speaking to Innocent’s nutritionist, Anna, I was comforted to know that we were on right track to encouraging Valentina to eat her fruit and veg. As a family we often snack on fruits and drink fresh  juice that I wizz up in the kitchen. I was reassured that continuing as we have as a family, we will encourage her to start eating her better. Anna also suggested giving the healthy option when Valentina is peckish. Her hunger will make her more willing to try something she may be less likely to eat when she’s not hungry.

Do you have a similar concern about your child’s intake of fruit and veg? Here are more suggestions from Innocent on how to up their daily intake:

  • Include some fruit and veg in every meal and snack time
  • Add fresh or dried fruit on top of breakfast cereal or porridge
  • Always add salad to sandwiches (like tomatoes lettuce cucumbers)
  • Give homemade pizzas a personal twist by adding more veg and fruit
  • Add colour by grating carrots and courgettes into mashed potato or bolognaise sauce

At Fruity Towers Angelo and Valentina enjoyed taking part in fruit and veg themed games. Valentina had fun throwing and kicking soft balls in the game ‘Coconut Shy’. Both kids enjoyed ‘Painting with Fruit & Veg’. The also relished the chance to get into the kitchen to compose their own smoothie creation. We also had a chance to hear more about Innocent’s two new kids’ smoothies. One contains pineapples, apples and carrots , while the other contains strawberries, apples and beetroot. YUM!

Healthy Eating

I hope you feel inspired to increase your child’s  intake of fruit and veg, in fact the entire family. I’ve already begun resumed grating carrots into our salads and adding cubes for sweetness and crunch.
