I don’t wear makeup on a daily basis but when I to I like to go bold and proud. Once the shade complements my skin tone, I’ll wear it. Red lips are sexy and timeless for an evening out but I usually reach for a green or purple. For this New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day even, why not try an alternative colour for your pout.
Big and Bold
It took months to find the perfect purple and green lipstick shades that any beauty could wear. Many time lipsticks and glosses masquerade as purple but once applied they are more fuschia, or mauve, too much red or pink in them. To be truly purpleicious there should be a balance between the red and blue because if it’s too deep it can make the mouth look small and severe. It’s the same for green lipsticks, balance and warmth create a sexier shade. My favourite timeless purple and green lipsticks are:
- Pandemonium mega matte lipstick, Urban Decay (RRP£15)
- Junkie metallized, Urban Decay Junkie Vice Lipstick Palette (RRP£31.50)
- Purple Affair matte lipstick, Kiss Cosmetics (RRP£2.99USD)
- Purple Reign matte liquid lipstick, (TBC)
Pandemonium is an individual lipstick from Urban Decay’s mega matte range. It has depth and an iridescence that I adore. One swipe and at once there are levels of colour, pinkish, bluish, lavender and silver. It easy wearing long lasting feels lush on the lips. It contains moisturizing ingredients such as; Aloe vera, jojoba, avocado and babassu oils. I love it for the evening.
Purple Affair is a rich purple with the subtle sheen of a comfort matte by Kiss Cosmetics. I spotted it at the Afro Hair and Beauty Show earlier this year. It was love at first sight. I paid under £2 for it. No surprise at this budget price it contains mineral oil and paraffin but I’m prepared to let that slide. I prefer it for a daytime look.
Junkie is another Urban Decay favourite of mine. It’s part of Urban Decay’s Junkie Vice Lipstick palette. Before I had it in my life I used to mixed eye-shadow and lip balm to achieve the right shade but it wasn’t long lasting. Junkie has spectacular metallic green shimmer with gold micro-sparkle. It a show stopper colour that delivers the va va voom for day or night.
Purple Reign is a new creation of Illusions Cosmetics’. It’s part of their new matte liquid lipstick range. Purple Reign is the ultimate matte. It glides on easily and dries like a lip stain. Mine stayed put after a full English breakfast! And I’m not the daintiest lady. Now, that’s staying power. Purple Reign is the regal shade to take you the evening. If you are love sparkle, then top it with a metallic or sparkly lip gloss for added pizzazz.
These lipsticks give full coverage and are long lasting. Wear them to complete a smoky sultry look, fun glitzy sparkle or retro colour pop of the 80’s makeup.
