February is seen as a dreary month in the UK. We are all recovering from the big spend at Christmas. It’s rainy and grey. However, if we look beyond the usual, there is so much going on. Be curious about other cultures and share in their joyful celebrations. February is Valentine’s, Carnival in Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago and Chinese New Year. Your imagination is the only barrier to how you can incorporate any or all into your half-term activities. Catching flights is optional. When our kids were younger, we did a mix of staycations and craft days. This year, the Winter Olympics are in full gear; if you are a sporty crew, watch parties or winter-inspired DIY craft experiences will fill a day or two. Now, I have trawled the internet and found some family-friendly half-term activities to inspire you.
Half-Term Activities Around London
The Greenwich peninsula has views, foods and activities. For Chinese New Year, there are a variety of activities to celebrate the lunar new year, including kids’ art classes . In Croydon, the Croydon Museum is hosting a silk painting at Croydon Museum. However, for a full list of half-term activities, CLICK HERE. Fulham Palace house and gardens always has something going out. I can’t recommend their musem enough. It’s always worth a visit.
Aficionados of the regency area will be thrilled to know there are a couple of experiences in Central London. The Jane Austen Experience opens on 27th February, in Oxford Circus. Then, at the Lanesborough in Hyde Park Corner, you can book for a Bridgeton Afternoon Tea.
Surrey Days Out For Half-Term Fun
I know I am biased, but I would always recommend day trips to Surrey. Get some fresh air and enjoy scenic views from Leith Hill. Painshill Park, Gatton Park and Priory Farm are some of our favourite spots. AND, believe it or not, there are opportunities to visit places for feel like you are in a Bridgeton episode, in Surrey.
Half-Term Attractions In Other English Counties
In Hampshire, you have Winchester and Southampton. Winchester for the Winchester Cathedral, Jane Austen attractions and boutique shopping experiences. Southampton for water sports, river walks and city centre shopping.
West Sussex has the much-loved attraction Tulleys Farm. At the farm, there is a range of experiences you can book. In February, you could do an escape room, then pop over to Tilgate Park for a stroll around the grounds. They also have a zoo! It’s amazing! Indoor Fun
Some of the suggestions have an indoor element. However, if you prefer to stay home, you can host a games and quiz evening, a carnival craft party, a tea party, or a movie marathon.
Do any of the above for one each day, based on your availability. Just remember, it’s ok for the kids to be bored sometimes. Leave room for their individual creativity to develop.
Get Social
I hope the UK half-term activities I suggested above have inspired you to plan a fun time with your kids. Whether you have family days out or indoors, I hope iyou continue to create happy memories together. For similar posts like this, CLICK HERE.
