As I type, we still don’t know for sure, what Christmas 2020 will look like in the UK. We are currently in lockdown with the hope of opening up on 5th December. One thing is certain, this Christmas everyone needs TLC. Whether we set intentions or make resolutions, reflection and self-care is important. On a personal level, I’ve made a decision to be mindful of how I spend my time as well as how I care for my mental and physical health. Over the past few months, I’ve been treating myself to wellbeing product from British Black-owned brands on Black Pound Day. I bring you my tried and tested wellbeing gift guide for Christmas 2020, ole and new.
Cherrelle &Cheryl Candles
One of my first Black Pound Day purchases was a candle from Cherrelle & Cheryl Candles (RRP£12). I was drawn to the bold empowering statements on their holders. I bought myself ‘Sweet Like Plantain’ because … well… when you know you know. The scent I selected was black rose and oud. It’s an evocative, sexy scent which for me is uplifting. There are four other scents to choose from including a decadent seasonal fave, salted caramel. You can pre-order your selection on their website.
Cherrelle and Cheryl Candles are vegan soy candles. Soy candles are made from soybeans, a natural, renewable source. They burn slower and cooler, are non-toxic. They are handmade by twin sisters, Cherrelle and Cheryl.
Y. Wait Shampoo & Body Wash and Rosebud Tea
Y. Wait was established by Yvonne Stephens in 2012. It is a nail bar, beauty salon and cosmetic brand. Her daughter, Patrice, is head of marketing. Although the store is based in Walthamstow, we can shop their treats online. Their range is vast (body, face, hair, wellbeing) and covers various skin types.
To date two of my favourite products from Y. Wait are the Shampoo & Bodywash and their Rose Buds & Petals Tea. I’ve always envied my kids’ 2 in 1 bath time products. Now I have my own. Y. Wait has five types to choose from. My personal favourite is the ‘KJ’ Shampoo & Body Wash (RRP£6.50 100ml) . The Rose Geranium scent will kick-start your day with positive vibes.
Then, Rose Buds & Petals Tea is just the ticket, whether you are working from home or need a pick me at the end of the day. Alternatively, if you are not sure there’s a try the Tea Selection Pack (RRP£15) which contains a selection of 10 teas.
After a nice shower/ bath, there’s nothing betting than a luxurious oil to lock in the moisture. Liha Beauty’s Idan Oil (RRP£38 100ml) is top of my list. It is a multi-use product but I like to use it on my skin. The oil absorbs quickly, there’s no oily residue only an alluring grown-up floral-musky scent. NO need for perfume.
The brand was established by uni friends Abi & Liha. Their mission has always been to create beauty products that represent them, a mixture of natural African roots and a quintessentially British attitude.
I have not personally tried this product but that’s because it’s HOT OF THE PRESS! However, I have bought a journal from KitsCH Noir in the past. The quality of the product was good which is why I know I can recommend their 2021 Affirmation Calender (RRP£15). There is no telling what 2021 will bring, so we need to fortify our souls. Affirmations is a good place to start.
Kitch Noir was created Cherelle. The designs are quirky, uplifting, inclusive and celebrate the diversity beauty in society.
Brown Skin Dark Lips Journals
I’ve bought my fair share of journals during lockdown . However, Brown Skin Dark Lips journals (RRP£9 ea.) are top trumps for style and purpose . You can choose one from three bold citrus shades or buy them all. There are also Christmas gift sets available. Inside it has three types of pages, lined for lists, dots for bullet journaling AND blank for whatever you fancy.
Brown Skin Dark Lips is the brainchild of Solicitor, Beauty Blogger turned Entrepreneur Natasha Glover. Natasha all about organisation, wellbeing and quality items. Your sure to find something that your loved one will cherish.
