I recently attended an event hosted by Sainsbury’s to showcase their SS14 products. I have to say it was well organised and very child-friendly which made my job much easier. It goes without saying the food was delish… OK I said it, but that alright isn’t it. I attended with a friend and her son, Master S. Both my daughter, Valentina and our little companion, Master S were well looked after and entertained by staff. His mom and I wandered around taking photos and chatting to staff. Let me tell you, the folks at Sainsbury’s have wonderful things in store for us, the Great British public come April! FOOD and FUN. Feast you eyes on the delights that Sainsbury’s will be bringing to us!
I was fortunate enough to have a quick chat with Sainsbury’s, Taste Developer, Katherine. I was curious to know what influenced her selections for the upcoming range. It was interesting to learn that as in fashion there are food trends. Apparently, some of the current trend flavours are beetroot, pomegranate and Moroccan (but that never goes out of style, I think). Restaurant menus also serve as sources of inspiration. More and more consumers are interested in where their food comes from. Well, on example is the delectable new range of ice creams that are being made with free- range eggs and rich milk from the Devon based award winning Stapleton family farm. These ice creams belong to the Taste the Difference range. The new flavours will be Gooseberry Fool and Cheery & Armaretto. All lovingly made in small batches which is sure to give that special fresh home-made taste.
One thing I noticed during my first summer in England, generally people love the sun. As soon as the sun comes out every patch of green seems to sprout human flowers. Sainsbury’s has clearly tapped into the love of the outdoors, picnics and barbecues. They have developed sumptuous food that’s great for sharing. For those of us who like eating fresh their are tasty salads and dips. Guy’s don’t be fooled by the retro influenced picnicware and paper tableware there is NOTHING ‘girlie’ about the BBQ Chipotle & Monterey Jack burger OR the curry dog. Pssst! That curry dog is one of my favourites. It’s 80% pork but still has that juicy frankfurter consistency. Fantastic ‘man-food’ that’s not just for men. THEN, comes the sweet temptations such as Lemon Meringue and Raspberry Cupcake, Raspberry Eclairs filled with British fresh cream and raspberries, Taste The Difference Raspberry Pana Cotta Terrine made with British double cream and infused with Madagascan Vanilla, topped with sweet , ripe, heritage raspberries, MMMmm.
We’ve already had two barbecues as a house-warming for our new home. I can hardly wait for these goodies to hit the shelves to host our third… this time with friends and family. Here’s to sunshine and happy days this SS14!
