In the past I’ve written about multicultural Christmas gift for children. This year I thought I’d mix it up a bit. I spotted toys and books that I think would make lovely Christmas gifts or stocking fillers. Here’s are the 10 products that I’ve selected in no particular order for Christmas 2016

  • Okido Magazine one year’s subscription RRP£24. CBeebies viewers will know Messy the cuddly blue character who likes to eat socks. Messy answers the questions that little ones want the answer to that some of us parents are likely to google. The Okido magazine is full of interactive activities, it encourages kids to do craft and helps them understand the world and science around them. Suitable for ages 3-8 years old. Subscribing over Christmas means little readers will receive the current issue – all about SLEEP and DREAMS – as a free issue ready to be opened on Christmas day. All 6 subscription issues will then be sent starting in January, that’s 7 issues in total!
  • Skylanders Imaginators this the recent instalment of Skylander games made my Activison. Prices vary RRP£32.99 ‘The game has recently been awarded the Toy Testers #1 kids Christmas game, as voted for by kids!’ Two things stand out for me, the ability to use figurines of previous Skylander games and the creation aspect. Imaginators allows children to create their own hero to battle against the evil of Kaos. The game is targeted for 7-12 years old, but a younger child used to gaming maybe able to operate it. It a colourful game with excellent graphics that will attract boys and girls. In fact there are female senseis and heroes, which makes a game that mixed siblings can enjoy.   Available Platforms: Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation®3, PlayStation®4 and Wii U. Crash Bandicoot starter pack available on PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®3.
  • Jenny Crying/Talking Baby Doll By Llorens (Chinese doll) RRP £44.99 by Just Like me Toys. I first saw the adorable Just Like Me Dolls at The Black Baby Show. I didn’t see Jenny on the day, but fell for her when I saw her on their website. Jenny is a soft-bodied crying and talking doll. She cries when her dummy is taken and she will cry and call “MAMA and PAPA”.
  • Nursery Doll from Just Like me Toys. RRP£19.99. Some of her features are She wears a plaid dress and white shoes and wears her hair in ponytails. Her clothes can be removed. Her eyes are made from hard plastic.

  • Black Scientists and Inventors: Book 1 by Ava Henry and Michael Williams. RRP£7.99 Order from My Book Basket. My Book Basket sells a variety of diverse book.  Black Scientists is suitable between the ages of 7 – 16. It contains biographies of notable black scientists and inventors from the UK, America, the Caribbean and Africa, Questions, a Timeline of Scientists and Inventors, a Glossary and a Bibliography for further reading. This would be an excellent motivational book for little children who have an interest in science for simply learning about inspirational black scientific figures in history
  • My Empowerment Journal by Casey Elisha RRP£3 Casey is a young writer who’s all about empowering the younger generation.  She successfully ran a literary event over the summer which at its core was focused on motivating and empowering young participants. The journal is suitable for boys and girls to encourage them to express themselves creatively while beginning to document their thoughts and positively affirm themselves.
  • Daddy Do My Hair by Tola Okogwu and Rahima Begum The first collaborative work between Tola and Rahima exploring the bonding moments when a father responds to his daugther’s request to comb her hair.
  • Go Jetters HQ based on the Cbeebies RRP£39.99. The series which explores cities and key cultural and historical facts. The Go Jetters are always ready to save the world’s landmarks from naughty Grandmaster Glitch.
  • Moana Singing Doll  Based on the newest princess in the Disney royal family. RRP£23.99.  The ocean-going Polynesian princess/hero/adventurer doll comes with two outfits, detailed accessories, and a ‘Wear & Share’ shell necklace, just like Moana’s.
  • DC Super Hero Girl’s Bumble Bee  RRP£7.49 This adorable kind hearted hero who can kick badies butts is a super cool gift. She’s 6-inch scale, highly articulated for powerful posing and creative storytelling and perfect for portable play.
  • Lego Marvel Super Heroes Captain America Black Panther RRP£29.99  Lego is the ideal imaginative play toy. This set pairs Captain American and Black Panther. Fire the jet’s stud shooters at Winter Soldier as he speeds away on his motorbike. Captain America comes with a 4×4. Fire the 4×4’s spring-loaded shooter and throw Captain America’s shield at the jet flying above!
